AAPCA, FONECO delegation meets Director of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs
ITANAGAR, Jun 06: A delegation of All Arunachal Pradesh Consumer Association (AAPCA) and representative of Federation of North Eastern Consumer Organization (FONECO) yesterday met the Director of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs in his office chamber and discussed on the 2nd North Eastern Regional Consumer Convention, 2013 to be held here on July 27.
They also discussed in details the various problems faced by the consumers of Arunachal Pradesh and stressed the need for creating awareness among people regarding consumers’ rights.

Conduct DPC on priority basis: AAPWU
ITANAGAR, Jun 6: In the second reminder letter to the chief engineer (Western Zone/Eastern Zone) PHE department, All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union (AAPWU) has reiterated its request to direct all the superintending engineers to conduct the DPC meeting within this month.
Claiming that the department has not conducted DPC meeting till date in spite of repeated requests, the Union said that all the W/C cadre employees should be regularized and casual employees be promoted to W/C category as per their eligibility through the DPC.
The union further warned of going ahead with democratic movement such as Dharna outside the office of Chief Engineer (PHED) WZ/WZ if the demand is not fulfilled.

Governor visits Changlang, takes stock of dev. projects
Itanagar, Jun 06: On his maiden district visit after assuming the office. Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma today visited Changlang, Jairampur and Nampong. First Lady of the State Jyotsna Sharma and Secretary to Governor Ankur Garg accompanied the Governor.
Interacting with the district officials, Public and Panchayat leaders and Gaon Buras,
the Governor advised them to realise their responsibilities and commit themselves
as dedicated members of Team Arunachal to take the State to new heights of progress
and glory. He emphasised on development, road communication, education and restoration
of peace and tranquillity in the district. The Governor who also saw the ongoing

The Governor asked the government officials to take extra care in implementation of infrastructure projects.
Stating that peace is a prerequisite for development, the Governor advised the officials and security forces to be proactive in instilling a sense of security amongst the people. He asked the Gaon Burahs and Panchayat leaders to guide the youth towards sports and other physical activities in which they have huge potential.
The Governor urged upon the people to stand up unitedly against militancy. He said that it is collective responsibility of all citizens and in this effort of theirs and the State Government, he is with the people. Strong measures will be taken when necessary but such situation should not be allowed to arise.
Referring to Namdapha Park, the scenic beauty of Vijoynagar, historic Stilwell road and Second World War’s war memorial and many other important tourist places, the Governor said that the district has the potential to be one of the biggest tourist attractions of Arunachal Pradesh. He advised all stakeholders to protect and preserve the prized flora and fauna.

The brutual killing of young boy Bomjen Gapak recently in Itanagar has once again ignited heated debate over safety and security of the citizens in the state capital. The loss of young soul has traumatized every section of society and there is deepening anger over failure of capital police to nab the culprit. The citizens trust police and think that they are here to ensure safety of common masses. When they fail, naturally police have to take all the blame for deteriorating law and order situation in the capital.
Numerous organizations has come out and condemned the incident. Such condemnations
are becoming more of routine exercise and it does not go beyond a ‘condemnation press
statement’. Also blame game between various political leaders over incident is intensifying
and debate is getting nasty with passing days. Majority of people are busy criticizing
about all the bad things ailing our society. Not many seem interested to retrospect
and try to figure out where we are getting it wrong. As per the police version late
Bomjen became alleged victim of group clash among youths. It means his murderers’
must be young soul like the death one. By now the parent’s of the murderers’ of Bomjen
must be aware of the heinous crime committed by their children. Instead of protecting
and shielding their criminal son, they should hand over him to the police. There
is a famous English saying which goes like this, “charity begins at home.” It’s time
to retrospect and let charity be begun at every Arunachalee home. In our state there
are people who preach their kids like this-
Ever since social media like Facebook and Twitter became popular, often in various forum and group I read young people expressing concern over rampant corruption and other issues concerning the state. These youths write in plenty in various readers forum column of newspaper and shows rare courage to take on against corrupt system. It gives lot of hope seeing how they are aware about prevailing situation. Most of us thought Panchayat and Municipal election 2013 will change course of direction in the state and we will witness young generation exercising their franchise wisely. Instead, money ruled the roost in the recently concluded election. The citizens who seem worried about corruption forgot everything at the time of election and votes were virtually purchased. With due respect to some honest voters, majority sold themselves and everything is back to square one. It’s time we introspect and ask ourselves whether we show honesty only in various social networking site and readers forum columns of newspaper?
Anshu, Nima return to rousing welcome
BOMDILA, Jun 06: After conquering world’s highest mountain peak Mt Everest last month, Everesters Anshu Jamsenpa and Nima Lama returned to rousing welcome in their home town today.
Besides their relatives and well wishers, the everester duo was received by West Kameng Deputy Commissioner AK Singh and public leaders at Indoor Multi Sports Complex here today morning.
Anshu is the first mother in the world to summit Mt. Everest twice in 10 days in May 2011 last at the age of 32. She also has the distinction of being the first Indian woman mountaineer to summit Mt. Everest thrice after her recent conquest last month.
Nima, the first time Everester also from the district accompanied Anshu for the conquest of the highest peak and succeeded in hoisting the national flag at the summit on May 17.
Congratulating the duo, Singh termed them as youth icons and as a guiding force and source of inspiration. Revealing that the National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) at Dirang in the district would be operational soon, he hoped that the institute would be a center of excellence and facilitate the young budding sports persons to excel and attain their cherished goals.

District disaster management plan reviewed
YUPIA, Jun 06: Outlining the importance of disaster preparedness, Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu called upon the officers to be very cautious during the monsoon as most of the natural calamities occur in monsoon season only.
Though we can not prevent occurrence of natural calamity we can reduce its impact to a great extent with timely and appropriate intervention, the DC said in a meeting held to review the District Disaster Management Plan in his Conference Hall here today.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for creating mass awareness among people regarding disaster preparedness. He emphasized on identifying disaster prone areas, making surface communication through, stocking sufficient medicines and setting up of control room to effectively deal with any kind of disaster during monsoon.
While responding to the problems of various line department pertaining to emergency fund, he assured to take up the matters with the Govt.
Superintendent of Police Nabam Gungte, also shared his view about the need of proper coordination and understanding among health, administration and police in time of any emergency.
Earlier, Preetha Menon, DRRO Papum Pare, briefed the meeting about the aims and objectives of the meeting and she appealed all the line department to extend their cooperation in preparation of a better Disaster Management Plan for the district.

Graziers Welcome Camp organized
ITANAGAR, Jun 06: At the onset of grazing season in Tawang district, Indian Army troops of Tawang Garrison organized a ‘Graziers’ Welcome Camp’ in Zimithang and Chuje grazing ground in Tawang district on June 3 last.
The aim of the camp was to extend a warm welcome to the graziers, who would be shortly moving to the grazing grounds located in the higher reaches along with their live stock.
Graziers’ Welcome Camp is an annual event conducted to collate data, conduct medical check up of graziers and their live stock as well as provide necessary assistance and guidelines to graziers.
The 140 graziers that attended the meet had the opportunity of meaningfully interacting with the station commander of Tawang Garrison, Brig JS Rajpurohit and also with Tawang Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Deb on issues concerning them and were assured of maximum assistance.
Vetinary department officials educated the graziers on various artificial insemination facilities and various subsidy schemes available on construction of houses and purchase of livestocks by graziers. Brig JS Rajpurotit, commander Tawang Garrison assured the graziers of all possible assistance.
To make graziers self sufficient cultivators, agriculture department distributed hybrid seeds to the graziers. Civil administration of the Tawang District attended the function in full strength to support the cause of graziers or Brokpas as called in Monpa.
The graziers were distributed blankets and shoes as a token of concern.
There are over 2600 graziers (Brokpas) in Tawang, who own approx 6000 yaks. They move up to higher reaches of Greater Himalayas in areas of Zimithang, Takshang Gompa and Klemta for grazing their cattle. Chhurbi being the main economic source of the Brokpas needs the attention of the civil administration. Their sustenance and livelihood depend on yaks alone. “Assistance from civil administration and Army will only help grow the dwindling population of yaks,” said Nawang, a brokpa from Seru village of Tawang.

Stressing the need of unity and integrity among students, former president of the student union Sunil Siram suggested the junior students to respect their elders. He also advised the senior students to guide the juniors to the right path.
Speaking on the occasion, Bamin village Gaon Burah, Tayom Padung suggested the student to work united on the developmental issues while another senior citizen of the village Tanyong Dupak urged them to keep a regular vigil on the functioning and infrastructure of the educational institutions in the area.

First lady distributes agricultural machinery to farmers
CHANGLANG, Jun 06: Agricultural machinery and implements were distributed to selected farmers of Changlang district under Chief Minister’s Agriculture Farm Mechanization Program at Agriculture Colony here today.
First lady of the state Jyotsna Sharma distributed the items, which included tractors, power tillers, rice haulers and water pumps, to the selected beneficiaries and farmers for the year 2013.
A total of seven tractors, 30 Power Tillers, 60 Rice Hauler and 50 sets of water pump will be distributed under the program before August 15 next.
Addressing the farmers on the occasion, the first lady encouraged them to work hard and remain always active for self reliant.
Stressing on girl child’s education, she appealed to the parents and guardians to send their wards to school regularly. She spoke on vast tourism potential of Arunachal Pradesh, which if harnessed properly can potentially improve the economy of the state.

Illegal immigration
Illegal immigration in Assam and other North Eastern states is not only an issue which can drastically change the demography, it has every potential to bring the ethnic and indigenous people of this region into verge of extinction.
And the funniest part is that the issue is dearer to many political parties in the region as it helps them to garner support of common masses in crucial times or the time of elections. And the most embarrassing part of the illegal immigration issue is that it has taken the shape of corruption, which, more or less, runs in the vein of human beings.
Many scholars and experts have suggested ways and means to stop illegal immigrants, particularly from neighbouring countries in North Eastern state. But in practice very little has been done without results.

(Retd) S K Sinha is right when he says “Vote bank politics resulted in deterioration of the situation in Assam and there is every possibility of worsening of the situation if the problem of infiltration of foreigners is not dealt with.” Mr Sinha vociferously had raised voice against infiltration of foreigners in Assam and also submitted a report to then President of India on immigration with suggestions for dealing with the problems. But his suggestions were put in cold storage.
After hue and cry, Assam Government had published a white paper on immigration issue last year. It was revealed that only 2,442 illegal migrants had been detected and deported since the signing of the historic Assam Accord in 1985. As usual the Assam Chief Minister vowed to take strict measures to get rid of illegal migrants.

With the arrival of railway project and implementation of numerable dams, large number of illegal Bangladeshis will make their way to Arunachal as labour force.

Blaming the system and Govt machineries only for influx of Bangladeshis will serve no purpose. We the local people (including politicians and bureaucrats) will have to prepare our mind to accept the fact that by embracing the illegal migrants as labour force we are actually forcing the next generation to be ruled by these ‘labour force’ within next few decades.

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to express few words regarding the article “Ignorance is the last excuse for getting cheap publicity” by political secretary to CM Mr. Bamang Tago. In this regard I think Mr. Bamang Tago did not fully understood actual meaning and concept of article “Is Arunachal Pradesh a failed state” by former MP Kiren Rijiju. I don’t think Mr. Bamang Tago’s article is befitting reply.

Discrepancy in distribution of stipend money
Dear Editor,
This is for the Education Department, Office of the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education and other concerned authorities, whoever is responsible for the dealing of students’ scholarship studying outside the state.
I, personally, am glad to know that the scholarship for the students studying outside
